Peru has a big political problem. The country has had ten different presidents in only ten years. Why does this happen? The country's laws make it very easy for lawmakers to remove a president. Because of this, the lawmakers have the real power, not the president. Recently, Peru had a new election for president. Two people wanted to win: Keiko Fujimori and Roberto Sanchez. The vote was very close. Fujimori won by only about 600 votes. Many people in Peru are not happy with the government. They do not trust their leaders. Even with these political problems, Peru's economy is doing well. The country sells a lot of gold and copper. Also, the same man has managed the national bank for over twenty years. This keeps the money safe. Now, Fujimori will be the new president. However, it will be hard to lead a divided country.
