Liking someone is exciting, but it can also be confusing. Psychologists believe that having a crush usually happens in six stages. The first stage is **Interest**. This is when you meet someone new and feel a spark. Sometimes this happens quickly, but other times it happens with an old friend. Next comes **Curiosity**. You want to know more about this person. You might look at their social media to see their hobbies. You want to know if you are a good match. The third stage is **Infatuation**. This is a very happy time. You feel nervous and excited, often called having "butterflies." The person seems perfect to you. After this, you start **Sharing**. You tell your friends about your feelings. You ask them for advice about what to say. Finally, the feelings change. You might **Fall in Love**. This means you see the real person, including their bad habits, but you still like them. However, you might **Fall Out of Love**. You realize they are not right for you. This can be sad, but it helps you move on.
