Katie Mack is a cosmologist. She studies the universe—how it began, how it changes, and how it might end. Katie learned to fly a small plane during the pandemic. Now she trains to do loops, spins, and rolls. She says flying needs all her focus and gives her a new view of the world. Her grandfather also worked with science. He helped the Apollo 11 astronauts by finding a hidden storm in the splashdown area. Young Katie was curious. At age 10, she read Stephen Hawking's book slowly and learned that a person could study the universe as a job. She later studied physics and wrote a book called The End of Everything about five possible endings for the universe. She also wrote a poem called Constructs. It says we are made of the same tiny parts, but we are more than those parts. Katie still asks big questions and enjoys sharing them.
