As living costs soar, more retirees head back to work (Level 1)

Many older Americans are coming out of retirement because they need more money. The cost of living is going up, and they cannot afford basic things like food, medicine, and housing. For example, 71-year-old Christine Drinks now works at a support group for veterans. She retired a few years ago but had to go back to work to help pay her bills. Another person is 78-year-old Richard Pulley. He delivers food because his wife lost her job. Some people take jobs that pay very little, like working in a factory or as a receptionist. Experts say that when prices are high and jobs are hard to find, older adults often have no choice but to work again. This is a difficult reality for many older Americans who thought their retirement years would be restful.
