Big Oil’s Iran windfall won't last | The Economist (Level 1)

Energy leaders recently met in Houston, Texas. They talked about a big problem. Iran is blocking an important water path called the Strait of Hormuz. Many ships use this path to move oil around the world. Because of this block, oil prices are going up. Some American energy companies are happy. They are making a lot of money right now. However, this is a dangerous situation for the rest of the world. The blocked path also stops other important things. It stops fertilizer for growing food. It stops helium, which we need to make computer chips. Some people think the problem will end soon. But military experts say it is very hard to fix. In the future, this crisis might change how we use energy. Countries might stop buying oil. Instead, they will use more clean energy, like solar power and electric cars, to stay safe.
