Black Opera Project celebrates resilience and richness of the Black American experience (Level 1)

Imagine a world 400 years in the future. A young woman named Persephone lives in a city called Atlas. She has a special gene that can give great power and long life. Her father, Titan, wants to take the gene from her to become immortal. So Persephone must run away and join a rebel group. This is the story of a new opera called "Lalovavi." The opera will be performed in Cincinnati next month. It was created by African American artists. The story uses a secret language called Tut, which was once used by enslaved Black Americans. The music and costumes make it feel like a movie. This is the first of three new operas that aim to bring fresh stories to the stage.
