Bolsonaro Wins the First Round: Can Lula Hold On? (Level 1)

Brazil held an important election on Sunday. More than 100 million people voted for president and other leaders. The two top candidates are Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Flávio Bolsonaro. Lula is the current president and is 80 years old. Flávio is the son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, who is in prison. No candidate won more than 50% of the votes. Flávio received 47% and Lula received 45%. They will compete again in a runoff election on October 25. Many voters are unhappy about high prices and debt. The next president may choose new Supreme Court judges. If Flávio wins, he may try to free his father from prison. The election is very close, but Flávio is the favorite.
