Brooks and Atkins Stohr on 'woke' politics in America (Level 1)

In Wisconsin, David Crowley won the Democratic primary for governor. He defeated Francesca Hung, a Democratic Socialist. Many people thought Crowley would lose. He had left the race earlier, but he returned about a month before the primary. He won narrowly. Hung had made controversial statements in the past. She attacked holidays like Thanksgiving and Valentine's Day. On television, she could not explain that she had changed. Political experts said she was a weak candidate, not that socialist ideas were finished. Voters today care most about economic problems like high housing costs and gas prices. Candidates who talk about these issues do well. Crowley's win shows that the right candidate is important in statewide races.
