Many people think elections are the best way to choose leaders. But elections have problems. Rich people often win them. A long time ago, the city of Athens tried a different way. They used a lottery system. They picked ordinary people at random to run the government. This system is called sortition. Today, some experts want to bring this system back. They call it a lottocracy. In this system, machines pick normal citizens to make laws. These citizens learn about one specific topic, like schools or hospitals. Then, they vote on new rules for that topic. People who like this idea say it is very fair. It stops rich people from buying power. But some people do not like it. They say voting is very important. Voting lets everyone choose their leaders. Both sides agree on one thing. We need a government that helps everyone.
