Male gliding leaf frogs live high in the trees. When it is time to have babies, they jump down. They use their big webbed feet to slow down. Their feet work like parachutes. The male frogs make loud sounds to call the female frogs. Female frogs like the loudest calls. A loud call means the male is big and strong. But smaller male frogs try to catch the females first. They want to steal a mate. When a male frog catches a female, he holds on tight. He uses his special dry thumbs to grip her wet skin. Finally, the female lays her eggs. She does not put them in the water. The jungle is very wet, so the eggs will not dry out. Laying eggs out of the water is smart. It keeps the babies safe from hungry animals in the water.
