The term highly sensitive person (HSP) describes people who feel things deeply. They notice small changes and get overwhelmed easily. The idea was introduced by psychologist Elaine Aron in the 1990s. She found that about 15 to 20 percent of people are highly sensitive. For them, the world can feel too loud, too bright, or too emotional. Some people with ADHD also have similar feelings. They might feel stressed by noise or strong emotions. But HSP and ADHD are not the same. HSP is a personality trait, while ADHD is a medical condition. If you often feel overwhelmed, it can help to talk to a doctor. Understanding your brain can make life easier.
