High up on Lassio Mountain, a small animal leaves his home for the first time. He is a baby Himalayan marmot. He lives 4,000 meters up in the air. Now, he has a very big job to do. He must eat a lot of grass in the next 12 weeks. He needs to become three times heavier than he is now. Winter is coming soon. When the cold weather arrives, the marmot will sleep for eight months. This is called hibernation. To survive, he needs a lot of fat on his body. But eating is difficult. There are 50 other marmots on the mountain. They all want the same grass. Sometimes, the baby marmot must fight to keep his spot. There are also dangerous animals nearby. Foxes, bears, and eagles want to catch him. He must eat quickly, but he must also be careful. He does not want to become dinner for a hungry eagle.
