How 180 Strangers Built a Library Together | Rebecca Toh | TED (Level 1)

In Singapore, a group of people built a special library. It is called a shared library. There are 180 shelves, and each shelf is rented by a different person for 45 Singapore dollars a month. About 40 volunteers keep the library open six days a week for 12 hours a day. Anyone can come in, read books for free, drink coffee, and meet new friends. The idea came from a small library in Japan. The person who started it posted on Instagram, and many people wanted to join. They found a space and built the library in three months. The library feels like a community. People share their favorite books. One shelf has a mailbox for writing letters. Sometimes people have dinners together, and twice a month the library stays open late. The library makes Singapore feel warmer and more connected.
