Arc'teryx is a fast-growing clothing brand from British Columbia, Canada. It began in 1989 as Rock Solid, making gear for climbers who needed safe equipment in harsh mountains. The company changed its name to Arc'teryx, named after a prehistoric bird that was no longer limited to the ground. Today, its jackets are popular on hiking trails and city streets. Sales grew from $500 million in 2020 to over $2 billion in 2024. The brand still makes some complex products in Canada, but most are made in Asia. Its Alpha SV jacket costs around $900. Arc'teryx also offers free repairs to keep old gear in use. A fashion trend called gorpcore, where people wear outdoor clothes as streetwear, helped sales. The company now sells more directly to customers instead of through other stores. In China, a large company called Anta Sports owns its parent firm, and prices are higher there. Arc'teryx believes extreme function is a form of luxury.
