A mother penguin sits on hot rocks. She has a thick coat of feathers. These feathers usually keep her warm in freezing water. However, the weather here is very hot. It is 40 degrees above zero. This is very hard for her. She must use her body to make shade for her eggs. The sun is dangerous for the colony. Other penguins leave their nests because of the heat, and their eggs do not survive. The mother penguin is very tired. Her babies start to come out of their eggs at the hottest time of the day. She needs help immediately. Finally, the father penguin comes back. He was fishing for ten days. He arrives just in time to meet his new baby.
