Many people think that "zoning out" is a bad habit. However, new science shows it might be good for you. Scientists studied people who did not get enough sleep. They found that when these people lost focus, their brains did something amazing. When you sleep, a special fluid cleans your brain. It washes away waste and keeps the brain healthy. The study showed that this same fluid moves through the brain when you zone out. Basically, your brain tries to clean itself because it is tired. This creates a short moment of rest. Daydreaming is also helpful. When you are bored, your brain can solve problems better. This is called the "incubation effect." It helps you be more creative. Unfortunately, many people use their phones whenever they feel bored. This stops the brain from resting. To have a healthy brain, it is important to put the phone away and let your mind wander sometimes.
