How the “AI Dollar” Replaced the Petrodollar (Level 1)

In the past, oil-exporting countries earned many US dollars. They often put this money back into US assets like government bonds. This was called the petrodollar. It helped America a lot. Now, petrodollars are not as important. The US now exports oil, and oil countries spend more money. But there is a new group of countries with a lot of dollars: chip exporters. These are countries like Taiwan and South Korea. They make semiconductors for AI. They earn a lot of US dollars from exports. Like the oil countries before, they put their extra dollars into US assets. This keeps US borrowing costs low and helps the stock market. However, it also makes the US depend more on AI. If the AI boom slows, it could be a problem.
