An artist draws people in war zones. He visited Ukraine after a Russian missile hit an apartment building. There he saw an old man named Petro, age 70, picking up books from a rose garden. Petro said books are food for the soul. The artist also met Olga, a 99-year-old woman who survived a great famine and forced work during World War II. He met Oleg, a young soldier, with his mother and his pet guinea pig. He drew Sergei, an injured architect, and Sergei drew him too. The artist believes the news often shows only destruction and makes people feel helpless. Drawing helps him slow down and see the human side of war. He wants people to witness these stories, not just consume them, and to value human connection.
