Solar power is changing the world. This spring, the Earth is making about one-third more solar power than last year. Solar energy is so cheap now that people in Australia will soon get three hours of free electricity each afternoon. In Pakistan, farmers are using fewer diesel pumps. They buy cheap solar panels from China and just put them on the ground. They watch online videos to learn how to set them up. Last year, almost all new power plants around the world used sun or wind energy. The sun’s energy is everywhere, so countries do not need to fight over oil. But some people who own oil and coal companies want to slow this change. We need to move faster. Using more solar power can help make our planet cleaner and safer for everyone.
