Tamara Keith and Amy Walter on Democratic primary voters not playing it safe (Level 1)

In Michigan, Democratic voters will choose a candidate for the Senate. The two main candidates are Haley Stevens and Abdul Al Sayed. Stevens is a moderate. She says she can win the election. Al Sayed is more progressive. He wants to bring change. Many Democrats feel that being safe did not stop Donald Trump from winning again. So some voters want to try a new direction. The Republican candidate, Mike Rogers, is already attacking Al Sayed. He says Al Sayed is too extreme. The winner will face Rogers in November. Money from a group called AIPAC is also an issue. Some candidates say this money has too much influence. They connect it to the need for more spending at home. The election will show what kind of candidate Democrats want for the future.
