The Biggest Threat to Democracy Is in Your Paycheck | Sally Kohn | TED (Level 1)

Long ago, Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence. It said all people are created equal. But today, many people do not think democracy is keeping that promise. Around the world, only about 20 percent of people live in a free country. In the United States, about three out of five people are unhappy with how democracy works. Experts say democracy is weak because it does not give everyone a fair economic chance. When people cannot find good jobs or opportunities, they may turn to other forms of government. Democracy must change. It should not only give people a vote. It should also make sure everyone has a fair chance at a good life. This means fair pay, better jobs, and stronger unions. If democracy does not help people, they may choose something else. But if we make democracy work for everyone, it can grow stronger.
