Usually, depression stops people from doing normal things. They might not go to work or clean their homes. But there is another kind called high-functioning depression. It is very common. People with high-functioning depression look successful. They go to work and take care of their families. However, inside, they feel very sad and tired. They survive by using coping skills. It is like using a bucket to throw water out of a sinking boat, but never fixing the hole. These people want to be perfect. They want to be the perfect parent or the perfect worker. When they feel sad, they ignore their feelings and work even harder. This is dangerous because they might eventually break down. To get better, people must stop ignoring their problems. They need to accept their true feelings and ask for help. They must learn that being happy is more important than looking perfect.
