The United States government has a group called the House of Representatives. There are 435 people in this group, and they make laws for the country. This number has not changed for about 100 years. However, the population of the United States has grown three times larger in that time. Because of this, one representative must speak for over 700,000 people. This makes it hard for citizens to talk to their leaders. Representative Sean Casten wants to change this system. He wrote a new bill to make the House larger. He suggests having one leader for every 500,000 people. This change would add more than 200 new seats to the government. He believes this will help the government listen to the people better. Some people worry that a bigger group will be messy. They think it will be hard to make decisions if there are too many people. However, Casten believes this change is necessary to fix the government and make sure every person is heard.
