The Psychological Cost of ICE (Level 1)

To understand how a country changes, we can look at an old idea from a Soviet journalist named Yuri Bezmenov. He said that you can change a nation's mind in four steps. The final step is called "normalization." This is when strange or scary things become normal. Today, the agency known as ICE is part of this change in the United States. Many people believe myths about immigrants. However, facts show that immigrants help the economy. They pay taxes and buy American products. Also, immigrants commit fewer crimes than people born in the US. Despite this, ICE treats immigrant families very harshly. They separate children from parents and put people in detention centers with poor conditions. This causes fear and sadness. It creates mental health problems for families. If we accept this bad treatment as normal, the situation will get worse. Communities must work together to help their neighbors and stop this fear from becoming the new normal.
