The debate over how to protect children and teens as AI use grows (Level 1)

Many children and teenagers use AI every day. A survey found that 9 out of 10 kids use AI tools. This has raised worries about their safety. Michelle Jawando, the CEO of Omidyar Network, says we should ask companies to design safer AI. She says it is not enough to just ban AI or check ages. Parents cannot watch everything. Companies should stop AI from tricking or addicting users. They should also not collect children's personal data. The government has passed a new law called the Kids Safety Act, but Jawando thinks it is only a small step. She wants more rules to make AI safe for young people when they use it at home or school. Changing the way AI is built can help protect kids.
