The fascinating reason you loved peek-a-boo (Level 1)

Parents all over the world play "peek-a-boo" with their babies. Why do babies love this simple game? The answer is in how their brains grow. Very young babies do not know that things exist when they cannot see them. When you hide your face, they think you are really gone. When you show your face again, it is like magic! Around six to nine months old, babies learn that you are still there behind your hands. This is when the game becomes very fun. They can guess when you will show your face, and they laugh. Peek-a-boo is also a baby's first conversation. It teaches them to make eye contact and take turns. As children grow and learn to walk, this game turns into hide-and-seek. Peek-a-boo is a basic game, but it is a baby's first great teacher.
