We Made A New Channel! (Level 1)

Kurzgesagt has started a new channel called "Nightshift." It tells scary and interesting stories from history. The first story happens in 1809 in southern China. Pirates attacked a fishing village called Sanshan. The villagers did not pay the pirates for protection, so the pirates became angry. The men in the village tried to fight back, but their weapons broke. The pirates won the battle, burned the village, and killed many people. This story shows a big problem in China at that time. China was a very rich and large country. It had one-third of all the people in the world. The Chinese invented paper money and the compass long before other countries. However, the government could not keep its people safe. The rulers were the Qing dynasty. They lived in Beijing and were very powerful, but they could not stop the pirates on the coast.
