People have always wanted to create machines that are like humans. Today, artificial intelligence (AI) is very smart. But can a computer feel things? Can it enjoy a beautiful sunset or taste a warm cup of coffee? Many people think AI will become conscious as it gets smarter. However, being smart and being conscious are two different things. Intelligence is about doing tasks, like solving a puzzle. Consciousness is about feeling and being alive. AI programs learn from human writing. They sound like us, but they do not feel anything. They only copy our words. A computer is made of metal and wires. The human brain is a living thing. A computer simulation of a rainstorm does not make real rain. In the same way, a smart computer does not have real feelings. We must remember that machines are just tools, not living creatures.
