Why America and the Vatican Have Fallen Out (Level 1)

Last year, the Catholic Church chose a new Pope. His name is Pope Leo. He is from Chicago. He is the first American Pope. People thought he would be good friends with the US President, Donald Trump. But they are not friends. First, they disagreed about immigrants. The Pope did not go to a big party at the White House. Instead, he visited an island to help poor immigrants. He said the US must treat immigrants better. Second, they disagreed about war. The President wanted to use the military in other countries. The Pope said leaders should talk, not fight. The US government was very angry. They called a church official to the military headquarters to complain. This fight is a big problem. Many people in the US government are Catholic. Now, they must choose between their President and their Pope.
