Why America is stepping away from the institutions it built | The Economist (Level 1)

The United States is changing its role in the world. For many years, America built groups like the United Nations and trade agreements to work with other countries. Now, it is leaving many of these groups. It uses trade as a weapon and asks for more from its friends. This new way is about getting quick gains, not sharing values. Some people call this a revolution in foreign policy. Many Americans support this change. They felt the old system did not help them enough. However, others worry about the future. There are three possible futures. America could become even more powerful. The change could slowly go away. Or the world could become more dangerous, like a revolution that nobody can control.
