Some new Democratic candidates call themselves socialists. They want big changes like healthcare for all, free college, and help with childcare. Donovan McKinney is one of them. He is running for Congress in Michigan. He wants to beat the current congressman in the primary election. Many voters are angry at old Democratic leaders. They say these leaders do not listen to working people. But not everyone likes the socialist label. Republicans and some Democrats say the ideas are too extreme. The socialists have won a few primaries in other states. If enough of them win, they could push the Democratic Party to change. But the races are still hard to win.
