Why China and America see AI differently | The Economist (Level 1)

People in China feel very differently about artificial intelligence, or AI, compared to people in the United States. A survey showed that more than 80% of people in China are excited about AI. In the US, many more people feel nervous. One reason is that technology has brought many good things to China in the past. Life has improved, and people hope AI will continue this. However, not everyone is optimistic. Some tech workers in China are losing their jobs, and it can be hard to find work after age 35. Also, some gig workers who deliver food or packages worry that AI might take their jobs. Still, many of them think technology always changes, and they will find a way. The Chinese government is paying attention. It plans to watch how AI changes jobs and hopes to help workers who are hurt by these changes. So, while many Chinese are hopeful, there is also some caution.
