What do you want to be when you grow up? Many people stop asking this question as they get older. Instead, they ask about jobs, money, and vacations. But maybe we should ask about dreams. In the Philippines, the economy is growing, but many people do not feel closer to the lives they want. A national survey asked Filipinos about their dreams. It found that the number one dream is financial security, especially to deal with health problems. Many people dream not for themselves, but for their families. For example, a teacher named Tidri wants to open a hair salon, but she must pay her grandfather's medical bills first. Measuring happiness is not enough, because people can be happy today but still feel far from their dreams. Instead, a country could have a Department of Dreams to help people reach their goals. We all still want to be something when we grow up, so we should measure dreams.
