Why Trump Is Relying on Coast Guard Special Forces for Key Missions | WSJ (Level 1)

The United States Coast Guard is a special group. They are unique because they are both soldiers and police officers. This allows them to stop boats and arrest criminals on the ocean. right now, they are very busy. In Miami, these teams train in a special building called the "Ship in a Box." It looks like a real boat. They practice how to enter ships safely. They use guns, but they do not want to hurt people. Instead, they try to stop the boat's engine. They only use force if they are in danger. The Coast Guard stops drug smugglers and illegal oil tankers. They work in many places, like the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean. Because they have so much work, they need more help. Recently, the government gave them $25 billion. They will use this money to buy new ships and helicopters. This will help them protect the ocean and travel to new places like the Arctic.
