Why are ICE agents targeting Minneapolis? (Level 1)

The government has sent federal agents to Minneapolis to find illegal immigrants. This is a surprise to many people because Minneapolis does not have a large immigrant population. Experts think the government is doing this for political reasons to challenge the city's Democratic leaders. The situation has become very tense and sad. Agents shot and killed a nurse named Alex Prey during an operation. The government says he was dangerous, but videos show he was only trying to help a woman. Many Americans are now angry about this violence. They do not trust the official story because it is different from what they see in the videos. Despite the freezing cold weather, people are protesting in the streets. In Washington, politicians must soon vote on the budget. This event might change how they vote regarding money for border security.
