Why has Trump Gone Soft on China? (Level 1)

Donald Trump recently visited China to meet with President Xi Jinping. In the past, Trump was very tough on China. During his first term, he put high taxes on Chinese goods. He also supported Taiwan and stopped Chinese technology companies. When he started his second term, he promised to be tough again. He even started a new trade war. However, Trump has recently changed his mind. He is now much friendlier to China. He lowered the taxes on Chinese goods and allowed some technology sales. Why did he change? There are two main reasons. First, the United States is busy with other conflicts in the Middle East and Europe. It does not have enough time or energy to fight with China. Second, China stopped selling important materials called rare earths to the US. These materials are needed for modern technology. This caused panic for American businesses. It showed that China has a lot of power.
