Recently, a high-ranking official from the United States government, Scott Bessant, surprised many people. He suggested that Alberta, a province in Canada, should separate from the rest of the country. He called Alberta a "natural partner" for the United States. This idea is known as separatism. It is not a new idea. In the 1930s, people in Alberta were unhappy because they were poor and felt the Canadian government did not help them. Later, in the 1980s, Alberta became rich because of oil. However, the government tried to control the oil money, which made people angry again. Today, some US politicians are interested in Alberta because of its oil and resources. Despite this, most people in Alberta do not want to leave Canada. Experts say it is very unlikely to happen because only a small number of voters support the idea.
