In 1999, the first phone with a camera was sold. It could only take twenty grainy photos. Today, phone cameras are amazing, but they have a big problem. To take a perfect picture, a camera usually needs to be large. It needs a big sensor to catch a lot of light. However, phones must stay small to fit in your pocket. Engineers found a smart solution called "computational photography." When you press the button, your phone acts like a powerful computer. It secretly takes many pictures very fast. Then, it combines the best parts of each picture into one final image. This helps the phone fix bad lighting and blurry faces. Even though the camera lens is tiny, the computer software makes your photos look beautiful.
